4,575 new COVID-19 cases reported; active tally at 93K

The Department of Health on Thursday recorded 4,575 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the Philippines' case load to 3,627,575.

The new infections brought the active case count to 93,307, of which 3,316 are asymptomatic; 85,244 are mild; 1,444 are severe; and 312 are critical.

Of the cases reported today, the DOH said 3,461 or 76% occurred within the recent 14 days from January 28 to February 10.

The top regions with cases in the recent two weeks were Region 6 with 451 or 13%, Region 7 with 400 or 12%, and the National Capital Region with 392 or 11%.

Total recoveries also rose to 3,479,485 after 7,504 more patients defeated the viral disease.

The death toll climbed to 54,783 with 94 new fatalities.

Of the 94 deaths, the DOH said 66 occurred in February 2022, 11 in January 2022, one each in December and October 2021, seven in September 2021, three in August 2021, four in July 2021, and one in June 2021 due to the late encoding of death information to its system.

Meanwhile, the country's positivity rate was at 15.1%. The total conducted COVID-19 tests were 36,407.

The DOH noted that 176 duplicates were removed from the total case count, while 47 cases previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.

The DOH said all laboratories were operational on February 8, while five labs were not able to submit their data.

Latest data from the DOH also showed that 39% of the country’s intensive care unit beds are utilized, while 19% of the mechanical ventilators are also in use.

In Metro Manila, 31% of the ICU beds are utilized, while 18% of the ventilators are in use.—LDF, GMA News
