Gordon amid dropping of common Senate bets: Basta iboboto ko ang tama

By LLANESCA T. PANTI,GMA News

LIPA CITY, Batangas — Re-electionst Senator Richard Gordon said Thursday that he will vote for the right presidential candidate.

"Ngayon, nagtatanggalan. Basta ako, ang iboboto ko, iyong tama. I am loyal to my duty [to the people]," Gordon said.

Gordon was referring to the tandem of presidential candidate Senator Ping Lacson and Senate President Vicente "Tito" Sotto III's dropping former Quezon City mayor Herbert Bautista

and Senator Win Gatchalian from their roster of Senate bets due to their endorsing other candidates for President and Vice President.

Bautista and Gatchalian both endorsed the tandem of former Senator Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos, Jr. and his running mate, Davao City mayor Sara Duterte.

Gordon then said that it was Vice President Robredo who invited him to join her Senate slate and he is grateful for it.

"Hindi ako lumapit kay VP Leni. Ako ang kinuha ni VP Leni, at nagpapasalamat ako [I was not the one to ask for inclusion under VP Leni's slate. VP Leni took me in and I am grateful.]

Robredo's ally, Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drilon, earlier said that Robredo's Senate slate included bets common with other tickets—Gordon, Senators Joel Villanueva, Miguel Zubiri, former Vice President Jojo Binay and Sorsogon Governor Chiz Escudero—on the condition that these Senate bets will not endorse any Presidential and vice presidential candidate.

This caveat was the same for the Lacson-Sotto tandem.

Robredo, however, has been campaigning for the election of these common Senate bets for the last three days of the campaign period even if she has yet to secure a categorical endorsement from them.

Gordon has been joining Robredo on the campaign trail for three straight days now.

Lacson and Sotto, for their part, said Gordon still deserves their endorsement.

"We reviewed the videos because when Senator Gordon was there. He said it was wrong to speculate he was endorsing a candidate," Lacson said.

"He said the people were in the pink of health, that you are well. That's it," Lacson added.
