Guanzon believes SC can easily reverse Marcos DQ case ruling

By JAMIL SANTOS,GMA News

Retired Commission on Elections commissioner Rowena Guanzon on Saturday expressed confidence that the Comelec First Division's resolution dismissing the disqualification case against presidential candidate Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. could be easily reversed by the Supreme Court.

"Noong nilabas naman nila 'yung resolusyon nila... buti nga mahina itong resolusyon para madaling baligtarin sa Supreme Court," Guanzon said at a forum organized by the Kawani Kontra Daya.

(The good thing is the Comelec First Division's resolution is weak that Supreme Court could easily reverse it.)

"Napakababaw naman po ng resolusyon nila. Parang cut and paste pa sa mga desisyon na pabor lang sa kanila," Guanzon added.

(The First Division's  resolution was very superficial, and it was like a cut-and-paste from decisions that only favored them.)

Guanzon voted to disqualify Marcos Jr. from the 2022 presidential race because of "moral turpitude."

Lately, Guanzon had been in the headlines after accusing Commissioner Aimee Ferolino of deliberately delaying the resolution.

Guanzon said Ferolino was however "too late" in supposedly delaying the promulgation of the ruling as she had already submitted her separate opinion as early as January 17.

"Kaya kahit hindi man po counted 'yung boto ko na DQ si BBM, part na po ng records ang aking separate opinion. Kung sino man ang sunod na ponente o pag-akyat sa Supreme Court, mababasa nila," she said.

(Even though my vote for the disqualification of Marcos Jr. was not counted, my separate opinion is already part of the records. Whoever will be the next ponente when the case gets to the Supreme Court, they will be able to read that.)

"Malakas yun na opinyon kasi inaral ko 'yun nang todo tsaka 'yung mga estudyante ko sa UP 'yung mga kasama ko sa opisina," she added.

(It was a strong opinion because I studied it thoroughly and my students from the University of the Philippines were with me in my office.)

In response, Ferolino accused Guanzon of trying to influence her in the disqualification case against Marcos Jr. —LBG, GMA News
