2,196 new COVID-19 cases logged; active tally at 66K

The Philippines on Thursday registered 2,196 new COVID-19 cases bringing the nationwide caseload to 3,646,793.

According to the Department of Health (DOH)’s latest bulletin, 66,588 active infections were logged, of which 1,090 are asymptomatic; 60,848 are mild; 2,913 are moderate; 1,428 are severe; and 309 are critical.

The DOH said of the 2,196 reported cases on Thursday, 2,078 or 95% occurred within the recent 14 days from February 4 to February 17, 2022.

Among the top regions with cases in the recent two weeks were the National Capital Region (NCR) with 358 or 17%, followed by Region 6 with 307 or 15% and Region 4-A with 214 or 10%.

Total recoveries climbed to 3,524,875, including 4,409 new ones. 

The DOH reported 107 new fatalities, pushing the death tally to 55,330.

Meanwhile, the country’s COVID-19 positivity rate was at 9.7%, which is higher than the World Health Organization's requirement target of less than 5% positivity rate.

The total conducted COVID-19 tests were at 29,392.

The latest data showed that 31% of 3,900 intensive care unit (ICU) beds for COVID-19 patients nationwide are in use.

At least 23% of the 14,900 ward beds in the country were utilized, while 26% of the 4,200 ward beds in the NCR were in use.

The DOH said all laboratories were operational since February 15, while there were three laboratories that failed to submit data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System.

Meanwhile, at least 79 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.—LDF, GMA News
