Moreno eyes amendment of party-list system: 'Parang naging pang-mayaman na'

Presidential candidate and Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko" Moreno on Wednesday said the party-list system in the Philippines should be amended as it has become a vehicle for the moneyed people to enter politics.

Moreno said it is time to review what safety measures could be included in the party-list system, the Senate, and the presidency and vice presidency.

"Parang dumating 'yung panahon na ang party-list system, naging pang-mayaman (it seems that the party-list system is now for the rich)," he said in an ambush interview in Marikina.

"Paano ngayon 'yung mga magsasaka o mga mangingisda, o mga sektor na mga urban poor, paano sila? Unti-unti na silang nagpe-fade away kasi gumagana na 'yung salapi ng mga mayayamang indibidwal na ginagamit at pinalulusutan 'yung sistema," he added.

(How about the farmers, the fishermen, or the urban poor. How about them? They are slowly fading away because the rich are now using their money to circumvent the system.)

Moreno earlier said he is eyeing to amend the 1987 Constitution and increase the Senate seat to 34 to promote diversity should he win the presidential race.

He again pushed for tandem voting, wherein the vice presidential bet must also win if the presidential candidate is elected.

"Ang problema kapag ang naging vice president ay kalaban, wala nang ginawa for the past five years kundi awayin nang awayin 'yung presidente, kontrahin nang kontrahin 'yung presidente kahit wala na sa lugar o dahil lang sa politika o baka sa personal na intensyon lamang sa political growth," he said.

(The problem is if the elected vice president is from another party, they will do nothing but fight the president, contradict them even if it is out of place because of politics or personal intentions for political growth.)—AOL, GMA News
