DOH sees no uptick of COVID-19 cases amid campaign season

Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said Tuesday there has been no increase in COVID-19 infections in the country since the campaign period for national candidates and party-list groups started early February.

“Nakita natin na wala naman ho tayong nagiging uptick ng mga numero ng kaso. Lahat ng areas sa ating bansa ay patuloy ang pagbaba ng kaso,” Vergeire said during a Palace briefing.

[We have seen no uptick in case numbers. Cases in all areas in our country continue to decrease.]

Vergeire said all areas nationwide are classified under minimal to low risk for COVID-19, except for two others that have moderate intensive care unit (ICU) utilization rate.

“Bukod do’n [aside from that], case trends across all regions, all areas of the country are low to minimal po,” she added.

, amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

For the candidates for the House of Representative and local elective posts, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) set the campaign period from March 25, 2022 to May 7, 2022.

Due to COVID-19, candidates are prohibited from shaking the hands of voters, or doing any act that involves physical contact during the campaign period.
