Robredo wants law on long-term transport strategy passed if elected president — spokesman

By TED CORDERO,GMA News

If she wins the presidency, Vice President Leni Robredo will push for the passage of a law that will establish a long-term transport strategy to ensure that projects will continue for many administrations to come.

“The thing with transport infrastructure, you are talking about projects that run into the years to complete,” Robredo's spokesperson Barry Gutierrez said on Saturday at a media forum organized by Infrawatch PH.

“We can pass a law that institutionalizes a transport strategy and transport plan for several decades moving forward,” he said in a mix of Filipino and English.

He added that an institutionalized transport strategy would be a guarantee that projects would be continued even after a change in administration.

Gutierrez said there may be a tendency for a new administration not to continue or completely revamp a previous administration’s projects.

In crafting a transport strategy, he said all stakeholders will be consulted by Robredo’s team.

He said Robredo will also review some of the transportation policies, such as the PUV modernization program and infrastructure projects, of the Duterte administration if she becomes president.

Gutierrez said these policies will be reviewed not only "in terms of the appropriateness of the objectives of the projects themselves but also in terms of financial and legal propriety." — VBL, GMA News
