Leni on her campaign: We don't fake unity here

By LLANESCA T. PANTI,GMA News

Amid efforts to discredit the mammoth crowd in her rallies, Vice President and presidential candidate Leni Robredo asked her supporters to stay the course, saying her people's campaign is genuine and cannot be bought by money.

“Dito nagsisimula ang pagkakaisang hindi kayang pekein, hindi kayang hakutin, hindi bayaran. Malaki pa ang bangka natin, kasyang-kasya pa ang mga kakilala natin. Tinatawag ko kayo ngayon: Hikayatin pa natin ang mga kakilala natin. Welcome po ang lahat dito.  Sabihin natin sa kanila masaya dito. Puno ng pag-asa dito," she said in her speech during a campaign stop in Zamboanga city.

(This is where unity which cannot be faked or bought by money starts. Our ship is still big, let's encourage more to get on board. We welcome everybody. Let us tell them that there is happiness and hope here.)

Likewise, Robredo addressed reports on taking down tarpaulins and murals made by her supporters to promote her 2022 presidential bid and the rest of her slate, adding that it will fuel the fire among their ranks.

"Ipasara man ang daan, itigil man ang mga byahe ng sasakyan, baklasin man ang ating mga tarp, pinturahan at ivandalize ang ating mga mural...sa harap ng kasinungalingan, umaraw man o umulan, walang kayang pumigil sa nagkakaisang lakas ng taumbayan," she added.

(Even amid road closures, cancellation of trips, taking down of tarpaulins and whitewashing of murals...amid the lies, rain or shine, the strength of the people standing together cannot be stopped.)

In a separate statement, the Youth for Leni Las Piñas said that it will seek action from the Las Piñas local government, the Commission on Elections and the police thru a formal letter over their whitewashing of a mural they made for the Vice President and her running mate, Senator Francis "Kiko" Pangilinan.

A similar incident of whitewashing a mural happened in Echague, Isabela but since then, Robredo's supporters repainted the mural anew, with Robredo and Pangilinan even gracing the place and painting the pink rose themselves ahead of the People's Rally in Isabela which gathered at least 10,000 people based on local government estimates.—LDF, GMA News
