Sara Duterte meets Lakas legal team after reports on alleged Smartmatic breach

LILOAN, Cebu - Vice presidential candidate Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte said Friday she met with the legal team of Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats following reports about the alleged security breach within the operations of Smartmatic.

In an ambush interview after the inauguration of the BBM-Sara UniTeam provincial headquarters, Duterte was asked to comment on the revelation of Senator Imee Marcos that there was a “very serious” security breach that occurred in the Smartmatic’s operations.

“Nag-meeting na kami sa legal team sa Lakas CMD at meron na kaming ways forward with the legal team kung paano i-address ang questions and issues with regard to the procedure at sistema sa Comelec in the conduct of the May 2022 elections,” Duterte said in mixed Filipino, Cebuano, and English.

Duterte did not elaborate about the said meeting.

Smartmatic is the poll technology provider for the May 2022 national and local elections.

Marcos has said that while the alleged breach is being probed further by the National Bureau of Investigation, the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC), the National Privacy Commission (NPC), and other groups, she believes that this “compromises the processes and operations of Smartmatic in very serious ways.”

Duterte is the running mate of Marcos’ brother, presidential aspirant Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

The senator had claimed that data regarding Smartmatic, including personal information, ledgers, photos of their office, contact persons in the poll body, might have been hacked by a syndicate group.—AOL, GMA News
