DOE to create guidelines for electric vehicle use

By JOVILAND RITA,GMA News

The Department of Energy (DOE) will create guidelines for the use of electric vehicles as the pending bill on the matter is set to be signed,  Undersecretary Gerardo Erguiza Jr. said on Monday.

Interviewed on GMA News’ Unang Balita, Erguiza said the bill includes a framework that authorizes the DOE and the Department of Transportation (DOTr) to craft the guidelines.

“Pangalawa, pipirmahan na rin po naka-pending na hong batas on electric vehicles (Second, the law on electric vehicles will be signed)," Erguiza said.

“Nakalagay na po diyan ang framework at binigyan ng authority ang DOE at gagawin nilang more particular ito, in coordination with the DOTr, at gagawin ang guidelines na ho rito,” he added.

(The framework is already there and DOE was given the authority to make it more particular, in coordination with the DOTr. The guidelines will be made for this.)

According to him, a circular has been issued for the certification of those who would like to build charging stations for electric vehicles.

Erguiza said hydrogen fuel is also being developed to be installed in electric vehicles so they would not need to be charged.

“'Yung electric vehicle natin, merong china-charge, merong hindi na, merong hybrid. 'Yung mga hybrid tumatakbo on their own, meron nang sariling mechanism sa sasakyan,” he said.
