DepEd all set for early registration

The Department of Education is all set for the early registration of public primary and secondary school students, to start on March 25 and run through to April 30, 2022.

Interviewed on Balitanghali, DepEd Assistant Secretary Malcom Garma said they are still expecting 100-percent enrollment for the upcoming academic year.

“Pero ‘yung 100% enrollment na ‘yan pwedeng sila ay nandoon sa home-based learning or ‘yung iba naman ay uma-attend na ng limited face-to-face classes natin. So hindi naman babawasan yan,” Garma added.

(But 100% enrollment includes home-based learning, or attending our limited face-to-face classes. So that will not be reduced.)

Garma also noted that the DepEd’s Alternative Learning System (ALS) enrollment rate was low due to the pandemic.

But he said they are optimistic that students who skipped this school year will be back by SY 2022-2023.

“Gayunpaman kung may mga dahilan para hindi sila maka-attend ng mga regular na eskwelahan natin bukas po ang ating ALS program,” Garma said.

(However, if there are reasons for them not to be able to attend our regular schools, our ALS program is open.)

He added that distance learning will still be implemented despite the resumption of face-to-face classes.

“Dahil hindi pa natin kaya na talagang makabalik tayo ng 100% sa dating face-to-face natin, tuloy-tuloy pa rin ang distance learning or home-based learning natin,” the official explained.

(Because we have not yet been able to return 100% to our former face-to-face. So our distance learning or home-based learning will continue.)

DepEd earlier reported that at least 10,196 schools have resumed face-to-face classes. Of these, 9,994 are public schools. — Mel Matthew Doctor/BM, GMA News
