Kontra Daya asks Imee Marcos to quit as head of Senate poll reforms panel

Elections watchdog Kontra Daya on Monday urged Senator Imee Marcos to resign as the chairperson of the Senate committee on electoral reforms in view of the presidential candidacy of her brother, former Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

According to Kontra Daya convenor Danilo Arao, Imee should step down from her post out of "delicadeza" as he cited possible “conflict of interest” between her position and her brother's candidacy.

Earlier, Imee disclosed there was a “security breach” on the system of Smartmatic — the software provider of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in the Eleksyon 2022.

Arao said the matter should be investigated but appealed to Imee and other incumbent senators seeking post in the May 2022 elections to inhibit from participating. They are Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III and Senators Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan, Panfilo “Ping” Lacson and Emmanuel ‘Manny” Pacquiao.
