VALENCIA CITY, Bukidnon —Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte has no comment as regards the multi-billion-peso tax assessment on the estate of the late former dictator Ferdinand Marcos.

Sara, who's running for vice president under the Lakas-CMD, is the running mate of Partido Federal ng Pilipinas standard bearer Ferdinand Marcos Jr., the late strongman's son and the petitioner in the 1997 Supreme Court case regarding the unpaid estate tax now said to be worth P203 billion.

“I cannot comment on that because I am not conversant on the facts of the case,” Sara told reporters when asked about the issue.

A Supreme Court entry of judgment has shown that the assessment of billions of pesos in estate tax from the family of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos Sr. became final and executory on March 9, 1999.

Aksyon Demokratiko, the party of presidential bet Manila Mayor Isko Moreno, asked the High Tribunal for a Certificate of Finality as regards the tax liability.

Marcos Jr.’s spokesman, Attorney Vic Rodriguez, believed that the issue on the estate tax was “all politics.”

Rodriguez also said the ownership of the properties which are subject of the estate tax had yet to be settled. —NB, GMA News
