The Land Transportation Office (LTO) on Tuesday said it will study the proposal of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) to issue plate licenses with the same last digits to motorists registering their new vehicles.

“Natanggap namin 'yung sulat pero pag-aaralan namin ang mechanics. And in fact, sila rin nag-propose na mag-meeting kami,” LTO chief Edgar Galvante told GMA News Online.

On Monday, MMDA said it has sent a formal letter to the LTO regarding the proposal

MMDA said the proposal aims to discourage Filipinos from buying more cars which they use as alternate vehicles for the number coding scheme.

For Galvante, the suggestion of the MMDA is “doable”. But he pointed out that some adjustments should be made for the proposal like the process of verifying the true ownership of the new vehicles.

“Meron po d'yang kailangang adjustments na gawin. For example, belonging to same household, iibahin lang 'yung pangalan nung may-ari, anong pagbabatayan mo?” he said.
