The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Wednesday said no credible threats have been monitored thus far in the observance of the Holy Week.

At a press conference, PNP spokesperson Police Colonel Jean Fajardo said police personnel will continue to monitor and ensure the safety of the public.

“So far, we have not monitored any credible threat to disrupt or disturb yung ating pag-o-observe ng Holy Week (the observance of the Holy Week),” she said.

“Nonetheless, yung ating kapulisan ay patuloy na nagbabantay para masiguro na yung paglalakbay ng ating mga kababayan ay magiging maayos at matiwasay,” she added.

Fajardo said the PNP deployed more personnel in transport hubs as they are expecting that more people will travel on Holy Wednesday. So far, the PNP has deployed 59,000 cops nationwide.

As of Palm Sunday, she said that 11 incidents including nine drowning incidents and two vehicular accidents were reported.

Meanwhile, the Philippine Coast Guard monitored a total of 33,394 outbound passengers and 25,048 inbound passengers in all ports nationwide on Wednesday from 6 a.m. to 12 noon.

The PCG has placed its districts, stations, and sub-stations on 'heightened alert' to manage the anticipated surge of passengers during the Holy Week. —LBG, GMA News
