OCTA: 20 percent of voters have yet to finalize Eleksyon 2022 choice for president

Around 20 percent of Filipino voters have yet to finalize their choice for president in Eleksyon 2022, OCTA Research said in Maki Pulido’s Monday report on “24 Oras.”

According to OCTA Research President and UP Political Science Professor Ranjit Rye, presidential candidates could still seek the so-called “soft votes” - voters who could still change their choice or have yet to decide whom to vote for.

“They are a bunch of 50-50 voters who are, you know, on the fence. If put that, those who are likely to change their votes… that’s still quite a number,” said Rye.

The research group on Monday released its latest pre-election survey taken from April 2 to 6.

Former Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. kept his lead among presidential bets with 57 percent preference votes out of the 1,200 sample size with a ±3% margin of error.

He was followed by Vice President Leni Robredo with 22 percent — a big jump from last month’s 15 percent.

Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso ranked third with nine percent, Senator Emmanuel “Manny” Pacquiao at fourth with seven percent, and Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson at fifth with four percent, and former presidential spokesperson Ernesto Abella at sixth with one percent.

Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio also remained at the forefront of all vice-presidential candidates after garnering 57 percent of the votes. Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto was trailing behind her with 23 percent.

Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan landed at third with 12 percent while Dr. Willie Ong is at fourth with seven percent. At the fifth spot is House Deputy Speaker Lito Atienza with 0.7 percent of the votes.

For the senatoriables, OCTA research named 13 candidates who it said have the highest statistical chances of winning. They are: Broadcaster Raffy Tulfo, former Department of Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark Villar, Antique Rep. Loren Legarda, Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri, Sorsogon Gov. Francis Escudero and Taguig City-Pateros Rep. Alan Peter Cayetano.

Also in the list are Actor Robin Padilla, Former Vice President Jejomar Binay, Former Senator Jinggoy Estrada, Senator Joel Villanueva, Senator Sherwin Gatchalian, Former Senator JV Ejercito and Senator Risa Hontiveros.

Rye, however, reminded voters not to base their votes on survey results.

“Ang dapat basehan yung program, platforms, pangarap ng mga candidates para sa ating bansa,” he said.
