Duterte declares May 3 a regular holiday for Eid'l Fitr

President Rodrigo Duterte has declared Tuesday, May 3, as a regular holiday for the observance of Eid'l Fitr or the end of Ramadan.

Duterte signed Proclamation 1356 on May 1 declaring the said holiday.

In the Proclamation, Duterte said the holiday will allow Filipinos "the full opportunity to join their Muslim brothers and sisters in peace and harmony in the observance and celebration of Eid'l Fitr, subject to the public health measures of the national government."

Tuesday, May 3, 2022 a national holiday in honor of Eid'l Fitr.

This was after the Grand Mufti of the Bangsamoro Darul Ifta on Sunday announced that the Eid'l Fitr commemoration will begin on Monday, May 2.

Eid'l Fitr is the Muslim holiday that breaks the fast of the holy month of Ramadan, which began on April 3.

Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao Chief Minister Ahod Ebrahim on Sunday also urged the public to maintain caution and the minimum public health standards in celebrations. —KG, GMA News
