Comelec: Marcos DQ case ruling release expected Tuesday

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) said Sunday that the decision on the appeals regarding the disqualification case filed against presidential candidate Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. is expected to be released on May 10.

Comelec Chairman Saidamen Pangarungan announced that the ruling on three consolidated cases were already signed.

He said that they decided to wait for the promulgation of the fourth case since it has recently reached the en banc.

“Actually, yung tatlong consolidated cases napirmahan na kaya lang dumating yung pag-apat na disqualification case. We decided na pagsabaysabayin na lang yung release. I receive the fourth disqualification case last Thursday night,” Pangarungan said at the press briefing.

(Actually, the three consolidated cases have been signed. But the fourth disqualification case just arrived recently. We decided to release the decision after the promulgation of the fourth case. I received the fourth disqualification case last Thursday night.)

“So the following day binasa ko na yung pang-apat na kaso and then bumoto na ako. Hindi lang na promulgate because the following day was a Saturday,” he said.

(I read the fourth case on Friday and then I voted. We did not promulgate it because the following day was a Saturday.)

He, however, assured the public that the decision will be released on Tuesday.

“And then ngayong Sunday, bukas special non-working holiday we cannot promulgate but rest assured that by Tuesday the first working day of next week we will promulgate yung apat na disqualification case abangan ninyo na lang sa Tuesday,” he added.

(Then today is Sunday, tomorrow is a special non-working holiday, we cannot promulgate  the ruling. But rest assured that by Tuesday the first working day of next week we will promulgate the fourth disqualification case. Just wait until Tuesday.)

Pangarungan earlier said five commissioners have already signed the resolution with two yet to affix their signature, including him.

These petitions were filed separately by the leaders of Akbayan party-list, Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP), Campaign Against the Return of the Marcoses and Martial Law (CARMMA), and the Pudno Nga Ilokano (Ang Totoong Ilokano) asking the Comelec En Banc to reconsider the division's decision to junk the disqualification case against Marcos, son of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos, Sr.

The Comelec First Division on April 20 junked the final disqualification case against Marcos for "lack of merit."

Comelec Commissioner George Garcia assured the public that all cases will be resolved.

In case of unfavorable decision, the petitioners could always run to the Supreme Court for appeal, he added.

Last Thursday, the Comelec said it will resolve appeals against the junking of Marcos DQ cases before the Election Day on May 9. —LBG, GMA News
