The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Thursday said it would release more than P7.3 billion for the mandated 2022 mid-year bonus of 222,787 personnel next week.

In a statement, PNP officer-in-charge Police Lieutenant General Vicente Danao Jr. said the amount came from the regular PNP appropriations programmed in the agency’s 2022 budget.

PNP Finance Service Director, Brigadier Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said the mid-year bonus will be credited to the individual payroll accounts of their personnel on May 17 through the Land Bank of the Philippines.

The cop’s mid-year bonus is equivalent to one month's basic pay.

But any pay that will exceed P90,000 will be subjected to withholding tax based on the Tax Reform Acceleration and Inclusion (TRAIN) law.

“This financial benefit is one of the many ways to recognize the dedication and hard work of our men and women at the PNP,” Danao said.

“While it is true that our service to the country is priceless, the government finds it fitting to provide its employees with incentives on top of their regular salaries,” he added.

However, Danao stressed that those personnel who were found guilty of administrative or criminal cases by final and executory judgment for fiscal year 2022 shall not be entitled to the mid-year bonus.—LDF, GMA News
