Active COVID-19 cases down to 2,487, says DOH


The number of active COVID-19 cases in the Philippines went down to 2,487 on Tuesday, the lowest tally this year, while 110 new infections were also reported.

On its website, the Department of Health revised the nationwide caseload to 3,688,001, down from 3,688,292, and total deaths to 60,452 from the earlier reported 60,458. The number of total recoveries was similarly reduced from 3,625,146 yesterday to 3,625,062 today.

The regions with the most number of new cases in the past two weeks were the National Capital Region with 875 infections, Region 4-A with 256, and Region 3 with 231.

A total of 19,725 individuals were tested as of May 16, with 323 laboratories being able to submit data.

The bed occupancy rate in the country was 17.3%, with 5,362 beds occupied and 25,599 vacant.

The DOH earlier said it has detected local transmission of the Omicron subvariant BA.2.12.1.

Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said three new cases of the subvariant were detected in the Western Visayas region.

Vergeire noted that one of the three is a fully vaccinated returning overseas Filipino from the United States, while the remaining two are local cases. — Mel Matthew Doctor/BM, GMA News
