Sara Duterte: Wide lead adds pressure to come up with better Philippines

By GMA News

Presumptive vice president Sara Duterte has admitted feeling some pressure to do well after she won the elections with so many votes and a huge margin over her closest rival.

According to RGil Relator, Duterte made the remark before newly elected officials in Malita, Davao Occidental where she also said she was “surprised” by the support of the Filipino electorate.

“Kapag nanalo ka na ganito kalaki ang iyong margin, nakadagdag ito ng pressure, sa expectation ng mga tao na may makikita tayong pagbabago at may makikita tayong stronger and a better country, and a better Philippines,” Duterte said in mix of English, Tagalog and Bisaya.

(When you win with this wide margin, it adds to pressure because the public is expecting to see changes and see a stronger and a better country, and a better Philippines.)

The leading vice-presidential bet also received a high number of votes from regions outside of Mindanao and even in provinces that her father, President Rodrigo Duterte, failed to capture in the 2016 polls.

“Is it something that is worth doing? Yes, it’s something that is worth doing kung ang mga tao, ‘yun ang gusto nilang makita para sa iyo and na-feel ko ‘yun na pagmamahal ng mga kababayan nating Pilipino,” Duterte said.

(Is it something that is worth doing? Yes, it’s something that is worth doing if the people want you to succeed and I felt that from our fellow Filipinos.)

Poised as the next secretary of education, Duterte indicated that she was looking forward to working with teachers.

She said there was much to be done in the country’s education sector including the planning and execution of the K-12 program.

“I only have six years to work with you, to improve the quality… number 1, your welfare, and number 2, the quality of education in the country,” Duterte said. —Sundy Locus/NB, GMA News
