PNP official reminds cops: Keep anti-illegal drug war relentless

Philippine National Police director for operations Police Major General Valeriano de Leon on Friday reminded commanders to keep the drug war “aggressive” even when President Rodrigo Duterte steps down on June 30.

"’Walang humpay at lalo pa natin paigtingin.’ We have just developed a new policy for this. Hindi natin hihintuan ang operations laban sa illegal na droga. Walang bitawan. It is our inherent function,” he said.

(“We have  to be relentless and we need to intensify the anti-drug war. We will not stop the operations. There's no letup.) 

De Leon added that law enforcement operations would be accompanied by equally “aggressive” information drives and education campaigns among students.

According to him, students are often the target customers of illegal drug syndicates.

De Leon said the police would implement a new policy in their anti-drug efforts, which focuses on rehabilitation and reintegration for drug dependents.

He also allayed fears that the next administration would stop the drug war.

On Thursday, President-elect Bongbong Marcos said Duterte asked him before the May 9 elections to continue anti-illegal drugs efforts. —LBG, GMA News
