Spox: Robredo’s return to government service not in sight yet

Vice President Leni Robredo won't be working in a government agency anytime soon, her spokesperson and lawyer Ibarra Gutierrez said.

Gutierrez, in an interview with One PH Wednesday night, issued the response when asked if Robredo will consider joining the government under the administration of Bongbong Marcos.

"Well, that question is hard to answer since she is yet to be offered a government post. But for now, her focus ay ang maayos na pagtatapos ng kaniyang termino. ‘Yung kaniyang pagkakaroon ng maayos na transition at pagsasara ng lahat na programa ng OVP under her leadership," Gutierrez said.

(Her focus is ensuring that the end of her term will be smooth sailing, including transition and wrapping up of OVP projects under her leadership.)

"And then [her focus would be] ‘yung pagiging private citizen na kikilos as part of isang civil society non-government organization na sisikaping ipagpatuloy ang serbisyo sa ating mga kababayan. So right now, ‘yun ang tutok niya. Wala muna sa horizon o wala muna sa agenda ang pag-consider ng pagbalik sa gobyerno in whatever capacity," Gutierrez added.

(Then she will work on being a private citizen as part of civil society, non-government organization which serves the public. Right now, she has zeroed in on that. Returning to government service in whatever capacity is not on the horizon yet.)

Robredo plans to launch a non government organization dubbed as Angat Buhay on July 1 or a day after she steps down as vice president.

Angat Buhay is an anti-poverty program of the Office of the Vice President under Robredo which combines private sector resources with that of Robredo's office to provide assistance to those in need.

Robredo, who ran on a campaign platform Gobyernong Tapat, Angat Buhay Lahat, lost to Marcos in the presidential race.

With less than a month before her term as vice president ends, Gutierrez said Robredo is busy with meetings in connection with the planned Angat Buhay NGO and meeting supporters to thank them for support during the presidential campaign. — Llanesca T. Panti/RSJ, GMA News
