219 new COVID-19 infections logged; active cases up slightly to 2,479

The Philippines on Sunday registered 219 new COVID-19 infections, increasing the total nationwide COVID-19 tally to 3,691,546.

Based on Department of Health’s (DOH) latest data, the country’s active cases slightly increased to 2,479 from 2,436 on Saturday.

No new COVID-19 deaths were recorded in the last three days while a total of 3,628,611 people have been counted as recoveries from the virus.

According to the DOH, the regions with the most cases in the last two weeks were the National Capital Region with 1,131, followed by Calabarzon with 433, and Central Luzon with 235.

The Health department said at least 15,677 individuals were tested, while 303 testing labs submitted data on June 4.

It noted that the bed occupancy in the country was 17.4%, with 5,360 beds occupied, while 25,393 vacant.

Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said that they recently detected Omicron subvariant BA.5 in two individuals from the same household in Central Luzon.

She noted that the possibility of local transmission of the Omicron BA.5 subvariant was very high. — BM, GMA News
