Philippines logs 1,295 new COVID-19 cases from May 30- June 5, 2022

The Philippines recorded a total of 1,295 new COVID-19 cases from May 30 to June 5, 2022, a 1.4% lower tally than the cases reported the previous week, the Department of Health (DOH) said Monday.

Based on the DOH’s weekly case bulletin, the daily case average for the week was 185. This was slightly lower compared to the 188 recorded from May 23 to May 29, with 1,317 new COVID-19 infections.

Data also showed that 599 severe and critical cases are currently admitted in hospitals due to COVID-19.

Of the 2,632 intensive care unit (ICU) beds, 386 or 14.7% were occupied. Meanwhile 4,031 or 18.1% of the 22,245 non-ICU COVID-19 beds were in use.

Of the new cases recorded in the covered period, there were 16 individuals tagged as a new severe or critical case.

A total of 69,487,920 individuals or 77.20% of the government’s target population are now fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Of this number, 155,924 were vaccinated from May 30 to June 5.

The DOH also noted that 14,312,506 have received their booster shots. Of which, 174,278 were boosted in the same period.

Meanwhile, at least 6.7 million senior citizens or 77.33% of the target A2 population have also received their primary vaccine series.

There were also one more verified deaths last week, which occurred in January 2021. 

179 cases on Monday

On Monday, June 6, 2022, the DOH reported 179 new cases as the country's active tally slightly dropped to 2,459 from 2,479 on Sunday.

The new infections raised the nationwide count to 3,691,724.

The Health department said total recoveries rose to 3,628,809, while the country’s death toll remained at 60,456.— RSJ, GMA News
