Duterte leads possibly final ‘Talk To The People’ briefing

The administration's weekly late-night briefings led by President Rodrigo Duterte may have come to an end.

At the Talk To The People event on Tuesday, Duterte said that this week's briefing may be the last in the series that began in 2020 to disseminate information and guidelines on the government's pandemic response, including progress on COVID-19 vaccine procurement.

"Maybe this will be the last of the programs na we adopted to improve the communication between the people and government," he said.

The weekly briefings are aired by Malacañang late at night after being recorded earlier in the day. They feature presentations by members of the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF). On Tuesday, they wore white T-shirts printed with an image of Duterte and the words "Salamat PRRD."

Duterte also read out a statement urging the Filipino people to rally behind the incoming administration.

"Maraming, maraming salamat sa inyong pagbigay ng tiwala sa akin," he added.

In a little over three weeks' time, Duterte will be succeeded by Bongbong Marcos, who will be inaugurated the 17th President of the Philippines on June 30. — BM, GMA News
