PNP acquires P764 million worth of equipment

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has procured more than P764 million worth of equipment, from vehicles and firearms to night vision devices and bomb detector dogs.

PNP officer-in-charge Police Lieutenant General Vicente Danao Jr., who led the blessing ceremony on Tuesday morning in Camp Crame, Quezon City, said that the procurement of the items was a clean transaction.

“I know that this procurement is most advantageous to the PNP, cost-wise and in terms of quality, to support the operations of the Philippine National Police,” Danao he said in a statement.

“Sa mga officers, lalong-lalo na yung gagamit [to the officers, especially those who will be using the equipment], please have the heart of maintaining these vehicles, these equipment para naman [so that] it will build to last, it was built to last and it will be protecting not only the lives of our PNP but the lives of Filipino as well,” he added.

The procurement includes 45 explosive detector dogs as well as the following items:

  • 16 vans
  • three light transport vehicles
  • 8,358 9mm Girsan striker-fired pistols
  • 8,500 5.56mm Galil basic assault rifles
  • 34 7.62mm Negev light machine guns
  • 620 automated night vision devices
  • 5,298 all-purpose vests (undershirt vests)

According to the PNP, funds from Capability Enhancement Programs (CEPs) 2015, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021, Congress-Introduced Initiative Appropriation FY 2021, and Trust Receipts 2018 amounting to P764,115,073.40 were used to purchase the items.

Police Major General Ronaldo Olay, the Director for Logistics and PNP Bids and Awards Committee (BAC) Chairman, said that the equipment will be issued to different PNP units nationwide including the PNP Training Institute (PNPTI), the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA), and PNP mobile force companies, national support units and police stations. — Mel Matthew Doctor/BM, GMA News
