Marcos to meet with US Deputy Secretary of State Sherman

President-elect Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. will meet with US Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman on Thursday, his office said Wednesday.

Sherman, recently in Seoul to discuss regional peace and security, "will also meet with senior officials of the incoming and outgoing administration to discuss new measures which will strengthen the bilateral relations between the US and the Philippines," the US State Department said.

The US Department of State earlier said that Sherman would be in Asia from June 5 to 14,

visiting Korea, the Philippines, Vietnam, and Laos.

In the last several days diplomats have been paying courtesy calls on Marcos to strengthen bilateral relations between their countries and the Philippines.

On Monday, among the diplomats who paid a courtesy call on Marcos were Ambassador Johariah Wahab of Brunei Darussalam and Ambassador Marco Clemente of Italy.

ASEAN diplomats also called on the President-elect: Thailand Chargé d’ Affaires Thawat Sumitmo, Lao Ambassador Songkane Luangmuninthone, Cambodia Ambassador Phan Peuv, Indonesia Ambassador Agus Widjojo, Singaporean Ambassador Gerard Ho, and Vietnam Ambassador Hoàng Huy Chung. — Mel Matthew Doctor/BM, GMA News
