Outgoing Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra on Thursday met with Cavite Representative Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla to ensure a smooth transition to the new administration.

Remulla will become the new Justice secretary under President-elect Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s administration on June 30.

“This meeting is important to ensure a smooth transition of leadership and uninterrupted operations at the DOJ,” Guevarra said in a message to reporters.

“We briefed Cong. Boying about the organization and functions of the DOJ and its attached agencies, our ongoing programs and projects, and certain cases and concerns that will need the immediate attention of the incoming Justice secretary and his team."

Guevarra also remained open to more meetings with Remulla, saying he would make himself available for consultations in the future.

Earlier, Guevarra said he would recommend that Remulla continue several programs of the Justice Department.

These include maintaining the agency’s “excellent” record in anti-human trafficking; strengthening the campaign against cybercrimes; pursuing the 3-year joint program with the UN on human rights promotion and protection; and developing alternative dispute resolution mechanisms such as mediation.

He said he would also recommend the transfer of the New Bilibid Prison and the professionalization of the Bureau of Corrections; the regionalization of prison facilities; the digitalization of prison records; the pursuit of the immigration modernization bill; and the strengthening of relations with law enforcement agencies and the judiciary. —LBG/VBL, GMA News
