Man who pulled gun on driver not an NBI employee — Guevarra

The Department of Justice (DOJ) on Tuesday said the man who pulled a gun on a driver during a traffic altercation is not an employee of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).

In a message to reporters, Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra said the driver was summoned for investigation on June 17.

“He is now facing possible charges for violation of the Comelec gun ban (if he had no exemption), grave threat, coercion, usurpation of authority, and illegal possession of firearm (if he had no valid license),” Guevarra said.

In a video posted on Facebook last week, the man claimed to be someone “from the NBI” after asking a driver to present his license for supposedly blocking him while he was conducting an operation.

He also berated the driver, who said he was from the Office of the President, for taking a video.

In response, the driver said he took the video after the man pointed a gun at him.

“Hindi, tinututukan niyo akong baril. Naglabas kayong baril (no, you pointed a gun at me. You pulled out your gun),” the driver said. — Joahna Lei Casilao/RSJ, GMA News
