By HANA BORDEY,GMA News

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Wednesday deleted the back-up files used in the 2022 national and local elections.

Officers of the poll body conducted the process at the Comelec warehouse in Santa Rosa, Laguna together with political parties and citizens' arm groups.

The data that were erased include serialized ballots which were sent to the National Printing Office, the SQL dump files which were used to upload in the elections management system application which include candidates information and other references that were used in the last polls.

According to acting Comelec spokesperson Rex Laudiangco, the poll body was deleting the backup files contained in back up hard drives.

"The other way around, we are preserving the data in the servers as a matter of protocol, in case it will be needed for election protests, as well as in case a precautionary protection order will be issued," he added.

The Comelec has started to delete some materials which they produced for the May 9 polls.

Last week, the poll body had already erased the ballot faces which were  printed at the National Printing Office before the 2022 polls.

Last May, the Comelec also closed down the automated election system (AES) servers and network infrastructure used in the recently-concluded 2022 national and local elections.—LDF, GMA News
