585 new COVID-19 infections push active tally to 4,176


New COVID-19 cases in the Philippines rose to a fresh two-month high on Saturday while the death toll remained unchanged, according to the Department of Health (DOH).

DOH data showed the country had 585 new cases, up from 539 on Friday and the most since April 3, when there were 690 new cases.

The fresh cases increased the nationwide COVID-19 tally to 3,695,652 and pushed the active count to 4,176, up from 3,829 the previous day. 

The top regions with cases in the past two weeks were the National Capital Region with 1,984, followed by Calabarzon with 601, Western Visayas with 323, Central Luzon with 305, and Central Visayas with 156.

Total recoveries climbed to 3,631,009 while the death toll stayed at 60,467.

The latest data showed 18,490 individuals were tested, while 316 testing laboratories submitted data as of June 17.

The country’s bed occupancy rate was 17.2%, with 5,149 beds occupied and 24,727 beds vacant as of Friday. —VBL, GMA News
