Philippines' weekly COVID-19 infections tally up 82%

The Philippines recorded a total of 3,051 new COVID-19 cases from June 13 to June 19, 2022, a 82% higher tally than the cases reported the previous week, the Department of Health (DOH) said Monday.

The daily case average for June 13 to June 19 was 436.

This was almost double of the 240 cases recorded from June 6 to June 12

, with 1,682 new COVID-19 infections.

Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire on Monday said more COVID-19 cases were expected to be recorded in the coming weeks as the country is now seeing another “peak” of infections.

Aside from the National Capital Region (NCR) which recorded a significant increase in COVID-19 cases at 70%, the DOH is also monitoring the rise in infections in the Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Western Visayas, and Northern Mindanao.

Data also showed that 554 severe and critical cases are currently admitted in hospitals due to COVID-19.

Of the 2,636 intensive care unit (ICU) beds, 385 or 14.6% were occupied. Meanwhile 4,033 or 18.2% of the 22,156 non-ICU COVID-19 beds were in use.

Of the new cases recorded in the covered period, there were 15 individuals tagged as a new severe or critical case.

A total of 70,032,274 individuals or 77.81% of the government’s target population are now fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Of this number, 272,563 were vaccinated from June 13 to June 19.

The DOH also noted that 14,853,657 have received their booster shots. Of which, 327,009 were boosted in the same period.

Meanwhile, at least 6.7 million senior citizens or 77.47% of the target A2 population have also received their primary vaccine series.

There were also six more verified deaths last week, but none of them occurred from June 6 to June 19.

Of the six deaths, one occurred in January 2022, one in September 2021, one in June 2021, one in April 2021, and two in March 2021.

529 new cases

On Monday, June 20, 2022, the DOH logged 529 new cases, bringing the nationwide count to 3,696,793.

This is the fourth day that the daily infections reached above 500.

The country’s active tally climbed to 4,740 from 4,529 on Sunday.

The Health department said total recoveries rose to 3,631,586, while the country’s death toll remained at 60,467.—NB, GMA News
