DOH: 45,416 dengue cases from Jan. to June 2022 up 45% from last year


The Philippines recorded 45,416 cases of dengue from January 1 to June 11, according to the Department of Health (DOH).

In a message to reporters, the agency said this is 45% higher compared to cases reported during the same period last year at 31,320.

According to the Health department, Central Visayas, Central Luzon, and the Zamboanga Peninsula recorded the most number of cases at 13%, 12%, and 10%, respectively.

DOH said the country recorded 11,680 cases from May 15 to June 11.

Of this, 15% came from Central Luzon, 13% from Central Visayas, and 8% from Western Visayas,

The DOH said that Mimaropa, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, the Zamboanga Peninsula, the Davao Region, the Bangsamoro Region, and the Cordillera Administrative Region have shown an increasing trend in the recent period.

It said 15 out of 17 regions have exceeded their epidemic threshold for the past four weeks.

According to the DOH, the country has also recorded 217 fatalities, of which 39 were reported in January; 37 in February; 34 in March; 45 in April; 58 in May; and four in June.

Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire previously advised the public to follow the 4S strategy which is to search and destroy breeding places, secure self-protection, seek early consultation, and support fogging or spraying in hotspot areas.—LDF, GMA News
