US Second Gentleman arrives in Manila for Marcos inauguration


US Second Gentleman Douglas Emhoff arrived in Manila on Tuesday in time for the inauguration of President-elect Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. on June 30.

Emhoff was welcomed by US Embassy in the Philippines Chargé d’Affaires ad interim Heather Variava.

 

 

US President Joe Biden earlier said a US presidential delegation will attend Marcos' inauguration. 

Emhoff, husband of US Vice President Kamala Harris, is the head of the said delegation.

Variava said this is Emhoff's first trip to the country.

He will also meet with alumni of the US government exchange programs, she added.

Aside from Emhoff, the following delegation members will attend the inauguration:

  • Heather Variava, Chargé d’Affaires, ad interim, US Embassy Manila
  • Bobby Scott, Chairman of the Committee on Education and Labor, United States Representative (D), Virginia
  • Nani A. Coloretti, Deputy Director, Office of Management and Budget
  • Admiral James “Sandy” A. Winnefeld, Jr. (Ret.), Former Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff
  • Edgard D. Kagan, Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for East Asia and Oceania, National Security Council
  • Chantale Y. Wong, US Director of the Asian Development Bank
