MPD: Public may enter Marcos' inauguration venue from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m.

The Manila Police District (MPD) on Wednesday said anybody who wants to attend the inauguration of President-elect Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Thursday may enter the venue from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m.

Interviewed on GMA News’ Unang Balita, MPD spokesperson Police Major Philipp Ines said Victoria and General Luna streets will be opened to the public heading to the National Museum on those hours.

“Ito pong Victoria Street at saka General Luna Street, ito pong magkabilaang street ng golf course natin. Ito po yung magiging entrance po ng ating mga kababayan,” he said.

(We will open Victoria Street and General Luna Street, which are on both sides of the golf course. These will serve as entrance for our countrymen.)

He said these streets will be closed at 9 a.m.

Marcos supporters will be designated at the golf course in Intramuros in front of the National Museum, which can hold around 25,000 to 30,000 people.

Aside from supporters, Ines said more or less than 1,500 VIPs and VVIPs (very very important persons) are also expected to attend Marcos' oath-taking as the 17th Philippine president.

According to Ines, the VVIPs will be seated above the podium of the museum while VIPs will be seated on a lane along Padre Burgos Burgos Avenue.

The other lane of Padre Burgos Burgos Avenue near the museum will be left vacant for the conduct of the parade, he said.

No information yet if there would be signal jamming during the event, according to Ines.

Follow health protocols

Meanwhile, Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire on Wednesday advised all participants of the inauguration, including those who will join protest rallies, to comply with the minimum public health standards.

“Please wear your masks properly. I-cover po ang nose pati ang bibig. Lagi hong maghuugas ng kamay at magadala tayo ng alcohol,” she said during the Laging Handa briefing.

She also asked attendees to make sure that they are fully vaccinated and boosted so as to protect themselves against COVID-19 during such events with big crowds.

“Alam natin na importante ang mga event na ito. Kailangan lang maging vigilant tayo, maging aware tayo, at laging ipatupad ang minimum public health standards,” she added.
