Re-elected Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri on Thursday took his oath of office before Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo at the National Museum of Fine Arts after the inauguration of President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.

"Today, I took the opportunity to take my oath as well after the Historic oath-taking of our dear President BBM," Zubiri said in a Viber message to reporters.

The lawmaker, who is poised to be the next Senate president, said he chose to take his oath before a portrait of the country's national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal.

"Bilang isang lingkod-bayan, gabay ko po palagi si Dr. Jose Rizal, para sa kanyang tapang, talino, at pagmamahal sa bayan," he stated.

Zubiri thanked his fellow senators, who also attended the Marcos inauguration, for witnessing his oath-taking.

Zubiri ranked eighth in the 2022 senatorial race with more than 18 million votes. — DVM, GMA News
