Educators are ready to participate in the proposed 100% resumption of face-to-face classes in the country in November, Teachers' Dignity Coalition (TDC) chairperson Benjo Basas said Wednesday.

“I think we're ready, our teachers are actually ready. We're waiting for this for the last more than two years,” Basas said during an interview on CNN Philippines.

“Nandoon po tayo sa [With the] distance learning, our children have suffered a lot because of this distance learning setup. Nakita naman po natin yung output nito, hindi maayos yung output [We have already seen that the output was not good],” he added.

Basas pointed out that the government should ensure that the classrooms are not congested and that teachers would not be swamped with workload before implementing 100% face-to-face classes.

On Tuesday, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said the Department of Education is looking to start face-to-face classes in some schools in September before holding 100% in-person schooling by November.

Meanwhile, Basas called on the government to increase the entry salary of teachers to Salary Grade 15 and provide another P10,000 additional salary. He said there were pending bills on teachers’ salary increase.

Aside from this, Basas said the K-12 program in basic education should be reviewed to determine possible reforms and adjustments needed to improve the system.  —KBK, GMA News
