PNP-HPG starts campaign vs. motorists abusing blinkers, wang-wang

The Philippine National Police Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) has begun apprehending motorists for the unauthorized use of blinkers, or flashing light devices, and “wang-wang,” or sirens.

Jun Veneracion’s report on “24 Oras” on Thursday showed the PNP-HPG flagging six vehicles in Davao City for the violation. Apart from their devices being confiscated, the motorists could also be fined up to P15,000.

“I am calling the support of our populace and our community na i-report po sa ating himpilan ng ating local police at HPG kung makita at may mapansin silang ganito,” said Police Colonel Reynante Reyes, Chief of HPG Region 11.

(I am calling on the support of our populace and our community to report these things to the local police and the HPG.)

Senator JV Ejercito earlier urged President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. to revive the campaign against unauthorized motorists using wang-wang and similar devices.

Under Presidential Decree No. 96, only ambulances, fire trucks, and personnel of the PNP, military, National Bureau of Investigation, and Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board are allowed to use such devices during emergency situations.

Also authorized are the country’s top five officials: the president, the vice president, the Senate president,  the House speaker, and the chief justice. — Sundy Locus/BM, GMA News
