Comelec: Close to 1M new voters registered as of July 12

Close to 1 million new voters across the country are registered as of July 12, the Commission on Elections  reported Thursday.

In a bulletin provided by acting Comelec spokesperson Rex Laudiangco, the poll body has tallied 909,687 new registrants on the 8th day of the continuing voter registration.

Of the said number, 571,740 belong to the 15 to 17 years old bracket, 289,206 new voters aged 18 to 30 years old, while 48,741 new registrants aged 31 years old and above.

There were 1,209,597 total applications processed by the poll body as of Tuesday, including reactivation, transfer of voter registration, and transfer from overseas voting to local voting.

The continuing voter registration runs from July 4 to 23, 2022.

Registration schedule is from Mondays through Saturdays, including holidays, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in all Comelec city and municipal offices with satellite and off-site registrations being held with due notice to facilitate more applications.

Among the target for the continuing voter registration are the new voters for the Sangguniang Kabataan. These are those who will turn 15-year-olds, or are already ages 15 to 17. Those who are not yet 15 years old but will turn 15 by December 5 can already register.

The next poll will be the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections (BSKE) on December 5, 2022. —LBG, GMA News
