Philippines logs 2,588 new COVID-19 cases, has 18K active infections
By RICHA NORIEGA,GMA NewsThe Department of Health (DOH) on Friday reported 2,588 new COVID-19 infections, the highest daily tally since February 16 when 2,671 reported.
Based on the DOH’s latest figures, the active case tally also rose to 18,090 from 16,244 on Thursday.

The DOH said the top regions in terms of number of cases in the recent two weeks were the National Capital Region (NCR) with 8,971, followed by Calabarzon with 4,640, Central Luzon with 1,899, Western Visayas with 1,872, and Central Visayas with 821.
The new cases also brought the nationwide case load to 3,727,970, according to the DOH.
The Philippines’ recovery tally also climbed to 3,649,239, while the number of deaths remained at 60,461.
The DOH said at 6,702 beds were occupied, while 22,869 were still vacant as the bed occupancy in the country climbed to 22.7% as of July 14.
A total of 21,176 individuals were tested, while 326 testing labs submitted data as of July 14. —NB, GMA News
