By JOVILAND RITA,GMA News

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) will target adopting international standards to improve the transportation system in the country, its Secretary Jaime Bautista said on Monday.

Interviewed on GMA News’ Unang Balita, Bautista was asked about his possible recommendations to President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. during their Cabinet meeting later in the day.

“Ang sinasabi po namin ay kailangan siguro i-adopt natin 'yung mga international standards (We are saying we need to adopt international standards),” he said.

“Alam niyo po, 'yung busway na 'yan, maraming ganyang operasyon sa ibang bansa. Nakikita po namin na 'yung ating mga ginagawang operasyon ay medyo hindi in accordance with international standards,” he added.

(Many other countries have similar operations like our Busway. We are seeing that our operation is not in accordance with international standards.)

Bautista said the DOTr is studying to make the transportation experience of the public convenient.

According to Bautista, the DOTr is planning to establish a fleet management system for the busway to ensure that an adequate number of buses is being deployed to accommodate all passengers.

On Monday, Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board chairperson Cheloy Garafil said they are looking at providing facilities in bus stops to make it more comfortable for passengers during the rainy season.

She also said Bautista also committed to look into the possibility of putting up a terminal in Monumento, Caloocan City which will serve as a staging and resting area for bus drivers. —KG, GMA News
