Commonwealth Avenue a ‘no rally zone’ during Marcos' SONA — PNP

The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Tuesday declared Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City as a “no rally zone” for the first State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on July 25.

According to a report of Allan Gatus on Super Radyo dzBB, PNP officer-in-charge Police Lieutenant General Vicente Danao Jr.  said “no permit, no rally” policy will be implemented.

National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief Police Major General Felipe Natividad said no protesters have obtained a permit yet.

Protesters will be allowed to hold rallies at the Quezon Memorial Circle and University of the Philippines - Diliman campus.

Around 22,000 personnel will be deployed to secure the SONA, which will be held at the Batasang Pambansa. A task force will also be created for the event.

A gun ban

will be imposed in Metro Manila from July 22 to July 27 and checkpoints will be set up to secure Marcos’ SONA, the PNP said.

Danao conducted an inspection along Commonwealth Avenue as part of the planning for the security measures for the event.
