Nearly 3 million new voters registered as of July 23 —Comelec spox

More than 2.9 million new voters have registered as of July 23, the last day of voter registration, acting Commission on Elections (Comelec) spokesperson Rex Laudiangco said on Monday.

Based on the latest data, Laudiangco said, there were a total of 2,937,807 new registrants as of the 18th and last day of voter registration.

Of this number, 1,815,174 belong to the 15 to 17 years old group; 963,756 are aged 18 to 30; and 158,877are 31 years old and older.

Laudiangco added that there were 518,799 Barangay and 4,475 Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) applications for transfer from other cities or municipalities.

A total of 3,901,578 applications were processed including reactivation, change of names, reinstatement of name in the list of voters, and transfer from overseas voting to local, according to Laudiangco.

“Record-breaking po ang 18 days na voter’s registration na naganap sa ikalawang pagkakataon sa loob ng pandemiya. Dahil po sa araw-araw ninyong pagbabalita, maaga pong nakarating ang tamang impormasyon kaya po naging napakarami ng nakilahok at nagpatala,” he told the reporters.
