Abra lawmaker asks Marcos for aid to quake-hit province

Abra Representative Menchie Bernos on Wednesday asked President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. to extend assistance to her province after it was hit by a strong earthquake in the morning.

"We implore on the President to extend assistance to the province of Abra to help us rise from the ashes of the devastating disaster," Bernos said in a privilege speech.

A 7.0  magnitude earthquake rocked  Abra province on Wednesday morning , killing four people and injuring 60 others

. The quake was felt strongly in many areas in Luzon, including in Metro Manila.

"We ask him to mobilize relevant agencies namely the NDRRMC, DSWD, DepEd, DOH, DPWH, PNP, AFP and DOTR to help us get back on track. We are optimistic that the father of our nation will look after us," Bernos added.

Bernos, however, said Abra will remain resilient.

"I assure you, Abra will rise again," she added.

Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles earlier said Marcos will "immediately fly to the [Abra] area as soon as the 'all clear' is given."

"He will make an inspection of the disaster areas as soon as he’s given the all clear, as long as it is safe for him to travel to do so," Cruz-Angeles said. — RSJ, GMA News
