Philippines should trust US the most, China the least —Pulse Asia survey

The Philippines should trust US, Japan, and Australia the most while China and Russia should be trusted the least, according to the results of a recent Pulse Asia survey released Friday.

The results of the survey, conducted from June 24 to 27, indicated that most adult Filipinos believed that "a fair amount of trust should be extended by the Philippines to several countries."

The results also showed that 58% of the respondents believed that the Philippines should give the US a "fair amount of trust" while 31% said a "great deal of trust" should be given to it.

The US, a long-time ally of the Philippines, had a total trust rating of 89%, according to the survey.

On the other hand, 63% of the respondents said Australia should be extended with a "fair amount of trust," while 15% believed it should be given a "great deal of trust." Australia's total trust rating was 79%.

For Japan, 55% of the respondents said it should be given a "fair amount of trust" while 22% said it should be accorded with a "great deal of trust." Japan's total trust rating was 78%.

Other countries' trust ratings were as follows: Germany (69%), South Korea (65%), United Kingdom (64%), Indonesia (60%), and India (51%).

Meanwhile, the survey also indicated that 31% of the respondents said China should be given "no trust at all" while 36% wanted "not too much trust" for the Asian superpower.

China's total trust rating was 33%, based on the survey.

On the other hand, 26% of the respondents believe Russia should be given "no trust at all" while 36% said it should be given "not too much trust." Russia's total trust rating was 38%.

This nationwide survey is based on a sample of 1,200 representative adults 18 years old and above. It has a ± 2.8% error margin at the 95% confidence level, according to Pulse Asia. —KBK, GMA News
