Abra quake infra damage now nearly P2 billion — NDRRMC


The damage to infrastructure from the magnitude 7 earthquake that hit Abra on July 27 is now close to P2 billion, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Thursday.

In its 8 a.m. situational report, the NDRRMC said the cost of 2,433 damaged infrastructure in Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), and the National Capital Region (NCR) is now at P1,993,069,205.62.

Most of the damage, involving 1,453 infrastructure, was in Ilocos Region amounting to P1,038,953,119.65.

This was followed by CAR with 828 damaged infrastructure at P922,086,923.16, and Cagayan Valley with 131 damaged infrastructure at P32,029,162.81.

The NDRRMC has not yet released the cost of damage for NCR and Central Luzon, which recorded 12 and nine damaged infrastructure, respectively.

A total of 35,958 houses were also affected by the earthquake in Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, CAR, and NCR. Of the number, 35,265 houses were partially damaged, and 693 were totally destroyed.

At least 146,363 families or 533,651 people were affected in 1,343 barangays in Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, and CAR.

Despite this, the number of displaced people currently staying in some nine evacuation centers went down to 277 families or 873 individuals.

Meanwhile, 15,916 displaced families or 55,741 individuals remain staying outside of evacuation centers.

According to the NDRRMC, the Department of Agriculture reported P48,256,325.55 in damage to CAR's agriculture sector, while the National Irrigation Administration reported P22,700,000 damage in the Ilocos Region and CAR.

The reported death toll remained at 11, while the number of injured individuals now stood at 609.

There is also no reported missing person already, according to the NDRRMC.

Currently, a total of 29 cities and municipalities declared a State of Calamity because of the recent quake.

Eighty-one classes and 157 work are also still suspended in Ilocos Region, Central Luzon, and CAR. — Giselle Ombay/RSJ, GMA News
