LTO to meet with IT providers to discuss delays in registration, licensing

The Land Transportation Office is set to meet with its information technology service providers to discuss delays in registrations and licensing, one of its officials said on Thursday.

At a public briefing, LTO National Capital Region director Clarence Guinto said the issue is the “priority concern” for LTO chief and Transportation Assistant Secretary Teofilo Guadiz III.

“Yan po ang priority concern na ginagawa ngayon ng ating bagong Assistant Secretary Guadiz. Makikipagpulong po siya sa mga IT service provider namin para matugunan yang problema,” he said.

Guinto said LTO’s Land Transportation Management System portal was experiencing downtimes and glitches.

The LTO is in a transition period with its two IT service providers, Guinto said. As part of the transition, he said, the agency is using two systems in case of emergency.

“Hopefully in the weeks to come, mabibigyan natin ng solution 'yan [we can resolve this],” Guinto said.

In a statement on Thursday, the LTO said Guadiz met with the officials and representatives of one of its IT service providers, Dermalog.

Guadiz told Dermalog to ensure fast and convenient transactions.

“We cannot ignore the sentiments of the motoring public. Their complaints were duly noted, and we would like to assure them that we will seek immediate resolution to their complaints so that their experience when coming to the LTO will always be a pleasant one,” Guadiz said.

Meanwhile, Guinto said local government units will decide on the appeal to impose fines on drivers for their violation under no contact apprehension policy, instead of vehicle owners.

He said the LTO and LGUs will look into possible adjustments on the policy. Guinto added that the LTO, LGUs, and transport groups had a meeting on Wednesday to discuss the matter.

On Wednesday, some mayors opposed the call of LTO on LGUs to suspend the no contact apprehension policy. — BM, GMA News
