BOC seizes P36 million in smuggles red, white onions in Misamis Oriental

The Bureau of Customs (BOC) said on Friday that they seized P36 million in smuggled agricultural products at the Mindanao International Container Terminal Port in Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental.

In their statement, the BOC said 12 containers of white and red onions, misdeclared as “Spring Roll Patti” and “Plain Churros,” were seized by customs officials on Thursday, August 11.

The freight goods arrived from China and were consigned to Frankie Trading Enterprises and Primex Export and Import Producer.

District Port Collector Elvira Cruz issued the Pre-Lodgement Control Orders against the shipments after receiving information on the possible misdeclaration of agricultural products.

Warrants of Seizure and Detention would be issued against the containers for violating Republic Act (RA) 10863 or the” Customs Modernization and Tariff Act”, and RA 10845 or the “Anti-Agricultural Smuggling Act", the customs agency added.

On Wednesday, the BOC reported it had intercepted around P701.82 million worth of smuggled agricultural products in ports across the country from January to early August. — DVM, GMA News
