Former Speakers Arroyo, Velasco take on new House leadership roles

Former Speakers Gloria Arroyo of Pampanga and Lord Allan Velasco of Marinduque have been named to their new posts in the House of Representatives on Wednesday.

Arroyo, who served as Speaker from July 2018 to June 2019, took her oath as House senior deputy speaker this time before Speaker Martin Romualdez during Wednesday's plenary session.

Present during Arroyo's oath taking were her son, Mikey Arroyo, and granddaughter Mika.

Velasco, for his part, was elected as chairperson of the House energy panel.

Velasco served as Speaker from October 2020 to June 2022.

Other lawmakers elected as committee chairpersons include:

  • Pangasinan Representative Ma. Rachel Arenas for House committee on foreign affairs,
  • Batanes Representative Ciriaco Gato Jr. for House committee on health, and
  • Navotas Representative Tobias Tiangco for House committee on information and communications technology.
